Learning

Last night, I started reading the book You’re Not That Great but Neither is Anyone Else. Interesting take on how to use negative emotions to fuel our drive to succeed. The one take away that resonated with me is to stop getting stuck in self-pity and shame and start using those situations to ask WHAT can I learn from this and how can I grow from this situation? I have been stuck and shameful but in reality, those situations made me a better person and drove me in ways that well wishes and compliments could never begin to make me grow. Take a moment in every situation, good and bad, and ask yourself....what can I learn here and how can this drive me to the success that I am seeking? Don’t become ambivalent and just stay there....keep moving forward and drive yourself to grow!

Love Yours!

To love yourself right now, just as you are, is to give yourself heaven. Don't wait until you die. If you wait, you die now. If you love, you live now. --Alan Cohen

Love?

This comes from an e-newsletter I receive from Jonathan Lockwood Huie:

Love does not claim possession, but gives freedom.  - Rabindranath Tagore

Lord, grant that I might not so much seek to be loved as to love.  - St. Francis of Assisi

You know you love someone when you know you want them to be happy,  even if their happiness means that you are not a part of it.  - Anonymous

Real love is never a selfish emotion. If you want something from someone - especially if that something is sex - what you are feeling is not true love. The wonderful anonymous quote above provides an infallible test for love. True love is about wanting happiness for the person you love - and not about seeking happiness for yourself. Fortunately, in most cases our own loving presence is the greatest gift we can give to a person we love. Nonetheless, the litmus test of love is knowing we would choose never to see that person again if we believed that distance would bring them greater happiness.

Perfection

The man with insight enough to admit his limitations comes nearest to perfection.  - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

None of us is perfect - and that's OK.

Life is not about perfection - or a quest for perfection. Life is about enjoying what we have - for as long as we have it.

Happy Holidays to you and your family.  Thank you for visiting my blog!

A good character is the best tombstone.  Those who loved you and were helped by you will remember you when forget-me-nots have withered.  Carve your name on hearts, not on marble.  ~Charles H. Spurgeon

It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.  ~Author Unknown

Today, give a stranger one of your smiles.  It might be the only sunshine he sees all day.  ~Quoted in P.S. I Love You, compiled by H. Jackson Brown, Jr.

Treat everyone with politeness, even those who are rude to you - not because they are nice, but because you are.  ~Author Unknown

What this world needs is a new kind of army - the army of the kind.  ~Cleveland Amory

If you want others to be happy, practice compassion.  If you want to be happy, practice compassion.  ~Dalai Lama

Clarity

It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye. - Antoine de Saint-Exupery

There is a road from the eye to heart that does not go through the intellect.  - Gilbert K. Chesterton

The eye sees what it brings the power to see. - Thomas Carlyle

Action

Inaction breeds doubt and fear. Action breeds confidence and courage. If you want to conquer fear, do not sit home and think about it. Go out and get busy.
- Dale Carnegie

Do the thing you fear to do and keep on doing it... that is the quickest and surest way ever yet discovered to conquer fear.
- Dale Carnegie

Happiness doesn't depend on any external conditions, it is governed by our mental attitude.
- Dale Carnegie

Instead of worrying about what people say of you, why not spend time trying to accomplish something they will admire.
- Dale Carnegie

Don't allow your fears to hold you back from accomplishments.  If we never make mistakes then we will never learn and grow!  Overcome the fear of decision-making and step out.  Sitting and waiting for things to happen only make our lives stagnant and un-enjoyable.

Affirmations

We may not always be aware of it, but we all create and repeat affirmations constantly. The problem is, we typically don't pay attention to exactly what those affirmations are saying. Often we go through the day giving ourselves all sorts of contradictory, or even negative messages. We may project confidence to the world around us, while our inner dialogue says... I hope this works. I am so nervous about this. I hope I don't blow it. Affirmations are self fulfilling prophecies. If we say, This is never going to work... then chances are excellent it never will.
- John Assaraf
